"In a land of myth, and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests upon the shoulders of a young boy. His name... Merlin."
Hey guys! Wassup? Recently, I've been watching BBC's Merlin for a while now, and I have to say, it's pretty good. (That may also be due to my love of swords and old-fashioned duels, so don't judge.)
It basically retells the story that pretty much everyone knows, y'know, the one that has King Arthur pulling the sword from the stone and becoming the King of Camelot, with his trusty (literally) old sorcerer friend Merlin at his side to guide him as he rules over the land of Albion, fighting against the different threats that plague his kingdom, yada yada yada.

However, this one is quite different. It basically puts Arthur as the crown prince of Camelot instead of a commoner in many other iterations that I've read (don't know about you, but that's what I know), and Merlin as a young man of about 23 (I think) at the start of the series.
Here, Merlin is the manservant of Arthur after saving him from a witch, and eventually becomes his best friend/ brother from another mother, even if Arthur would be the last person to admit it despite it being plainly obvious to everyone in all of Camelot. Heck, even the princess of another kingdom can see it even though he's only been there for about 2 days. Merlin is still magical, but here magic is outlawed by Uther, Arthur's father.
Merlin has saved Arthur's arrogant, dollop headed and supercilious butt more times than I can care to count, and Arthur doesn't even know it. Merlin often complains about leaving Arthur, but we all know it isn't true otherwise BBC wouldn't be able to produce this show anymore if he did.
I won't spoil any plot points, but trust me when I say that this is an awesome series albeit a bit repetitive (for crying out loud Uther, trust Gaius!) with the whole magical influence, screw-up by a non-magical person, Merlin saves the day thing, but that's only happened about once or twice in my opinion.
It's a great series, and I would love it if more people would watch it and have the same feeling of excitement I have whenever I watch it. Currently, I'm on Season 5, about to start the first episode, so please, don't spoil it in the comments down below. And yes (SPOILER ALERT) the sword Excalibur is here (forged by Merlin in a dragon's breath), and Merlin does become an old man (in a rather comical way).
Anyway, that's all for today, so let's go and save Albion, Emrys!
